Terms of service
Last updated: October 11, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Alert Scholar. By creating an account, you accept them.
The testing period
Alert Scholar is invite-only while we test it, and it’s free during this period. Features may change, and there may be mistakes, bugs or interruptions. We’ll tell you before any part of Alert Scholar becomes paid, and we’ll never charge you without your agreement.
Your account
Sign in with your own Google account and keep it secure. You must be at least 16. You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
Your information
Everything you give us stays yours. You allow us to use it to run Alert Scholar for you and to improve how it works, as described in our Privacy policy.
Papers and sources
Papers belong to their authors and publishers. Alert Scholar shows titles, authors, short excerpts and links to the original sources. Naming a journal, publisher or preprint server doesn’t imply any partnership with or endorsement by it.
What Alert Scholar can and can’t do
We work hard to find the papers that matter to you, but we can’t guarantee that we’ll find every relevant paper, or that every paper we send will be relevant. Don’t rely on Alert Scholar as your only way of following the literature.
Fair use
Don’t misuse Alert Scholar. For example, don’t try to break or overload it, copy or scrape it, or use it to harm others.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. We may suspend an account that breaks these terms. If we end the testing period or close Alert Scholar, we’ll give you notice and a chance to export your saved papers.
Disclaimers and liability
Alert Scholar is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which during the testing period is nothing.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
Changes to these terms
We’ll email you before any significant change to these terms takes effect.
